Where Are We

Great Barugh Birds Eye View

The villages of Great and Little Barugh are situated in the heart of the Vale of Pickering, equidistant from the historic market towns of Pickering, Malton and Kirkbymoorside. Both villages command elevated positions from which far reaching views are visible across the Vale of Pickering and towards the North Yorkshire Moors National Park.

With references in the Domesday Book, the villages are steeped in history with roman and anglo-saxon ruins being found in both villages. One of the oldest buildings is The Golden Lion which dates back to the 1600’s.

With easy road links to the local market towns, ‘The Barughs’ are a lovely place to live. Public footpaths and cycle loops ensure routes to explore around the area. The North Yorkshire Moors are only a few minutes drive and there are many places to visit on the doorstep such as Castle Howard, Flamingoland and Dalby Forest.

The nearest primary school is Amotherby, with others in Malton, Norton, Sinnington, Slinsgby and Kirkbymoorside. Secondary Schools are Malton, Norton, Ryedale School in Nawton and Lady Lumley’s at Pickering.

Although we are not on a service bus route, Ryedale Community Transport run services to Pickering, Kirkbymoorside and Malton on market days.
